Can coaching help weight loss?

Would  Life Coaching be useful  to help you lose weight?  You may wonder if there is an alternative to ‘going on a diet’ in order to reach the weight you want to be.

Instead of yet another diet there might be an option of hiring a coach to help you change your mindset about your weight and instead of concentrating on the amount of weight you lose, counting points or calories.

Since being overweight is as much about balance especially between the amount of exercise you do and the quantity and quality of your food, techniques which would help you have a better balance in your life might be useful for weight too.

Since overweight may be related to overeating especially emotional eating it would be logical to assume that better balance, less frustration with things not getting done and more time to do more of what you want to do might all be useful to enable you not to need to overeat in response to emotional upset because you would experience such upsets less frequently and  be able to cope in other ways instead of using food for comfort.

You could benefit from some coaching around your general life balance even  if you are the sort of person who likes to sort things out for themselves without involving someone who doesn’t  know you  and you would be unlikely to ever meet face to face.

Here are the five questions to ask yourself to help you decide whether or not to try coaching.

1. What is the one change you must make?

There is usually one thing which you know would make a huge difference not only in relation to your weight but also your life.

2. What must  you be give up completely and what could you just have or do less of?

If you ban something completely you are more likely to crave it. You know what you must eat less of just have a bit sometimes, rather than never.

3. What can you do today to start to make a difference?

Perhaps having a walk for 15 minutes would be an easy thing to do which would have healthy effects too.

4. What will you ask someone else to do for you?

Ask for help. You don’t have to do everything yourself. Decide what someone else could do and  arrange for them to do it.

5. Are you ready?

You can plan as much as you want but in the end you must take action. If you are ready that is what you will do. If not examine what’s stopping you and remove those obstacles.
